US Senate Rejects Crypto Clarity Bill Amid Industry Lobbying Failures
The US Senate has blocked the 'Clarity' crypto bill, which aimed to create a regulatory framework for the $2 trillion cryptocurrency market. The bill failed to secure enough support in the procedural vote, with 49 senators voting to advance it while 50 voted against.
This unexpected coalition was formed despite the crypto industry's significant campaign spending and lobbying efforts, which failed to sway lawmakers. According to Reuters data, the industry spent over $300 million on the 2024 and 2026 election campaigns in support of pro-crypto candidates and nationwide lobbying campaigns.
The defeat of the bill has left analysts speculating about the crypto industry's future influence in Washington. Despite having around $130 million at its disposal, the industry may struggle to build bipartisan consensus due to the controversy surrounding President Trump's personal crypto interests.
