US Senate Set to Vote on CLARITY Crypto Bill This Week
US Senator Tim Scott has confirmed that the Senate will vote on the Digital Asset Market Clarity (CLARITY) Act this week, before the chamber breaks for an August recess. The bill aims to provide greater clarity and regulation in the crypto market. According to Scott, the Senate 'should have the first vote' on CLARITY this week.
Scott's statement echoed comments from Senator Cynthia Lummis, who has been urging lawmakers to take up a vote on the bill before the recess. The CLARITY Act would need support from 60 lawmakers to pass the Senate and advance in Congress. However, there are still concerns regarding US President Donald Trump's crypto investments and licensing requirements for crypto companies handling stablecoins.
Scott believes that there is 'good news' as they have time to get it done before the recess. The South Carolina lawmaker also mentioned that Senate Majority Leader John Thune has the authority to set the agenda and schedule floor votes, giving them a chance to reach an agreement on potential adjustments to the bill.
