US Senate to Vote on CLARITY Act This Week Amid Industry Calls for Regulation

Share

US lawmakers are pushing to pass the Digital Asset Market Clarity (CLARITY) Act before their August recess. According to Senator Tim Scott, who chairs the Senate Banking Committee, a vote on the bill is imminent and will likely happen this week.

Scott stated that there should be 'no question' about holding a vote on CLARITY, indicating that the chamber is moving swiftly to address the crypto industry's regulatory needs. He also noted that Senate Majority Leader John Thune still has time to schedule a cloture vote on the bill in the next few days.

The South Carolina lawmaker echoed comments from Senator Cynthia Lummis, who urged the Senate to take up a vote on CLARITY before the recess. The bill's passage would require support from at least 60 lawmakers to advance in Congress.

However, some concerns still need to be addressed before a vote can take place. Democrats have raised questions about US President Donald Trump's crypto investments, while heads of the banking industry are calling for the bill to address licensing and restrictions for crypto companies handling stablecoins.
