US Targets Iranian Oil Fleet Amid Escalating Tensions
The United States military launched a strike against three Iranian oil tankers on September 5 in response to missile attacks by Iran targeting two American warships. According to CENTCOM, their forces disabled two carriers near Kharg Island and Jask, while another tanker was destroyed in the Gulf of Oman.
Iran had fired multiple missiles at the U.S. aircraft carrier and guided-missile destroyer, but the American ships evaded the attacks with no injuries reported among personnel.
The strikes targeted a multibillion-dollar network supporting the IRGC and regional proxies, CENTCOM warned that Iran's exposed oil fleet could face further strikes.
