US Treasury Includes Crypto, Prediction Markets in Financial Literacy Strategy
The US Treasury has included digital assets and prediction markets in its updated national financial literacy strategy. The 2026 update to the National Strategy for Financial Literacy was released on October 2 by the Financial Literacy and Education Commission (FLEC), chaired by Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent.
The strategy identifies digital assets, including cryptocurrencies, as a key area of focus in terms of consumer understanding. It calls for consumers to understand the characteristics, features, and risks associated with these products, as well as how to evaluate financial information found online and through AI-generated sources.
CFTC Chairman Michael Selig welcomed the update, stating that it was 'pleased to see' the new strategy and that the CFTC remained committed to helping Americans 'recognize fraud, understand risk, and participate in our markets with more confidence.'
