US Treasury Targets Crypto in Expanded Iran Sanctions
The US Treasury has expanded its Iran sanctions to include crypto, gold, technology, aviation, and shipping. This move is aimed at stopping Iran from using alternative financial channels to evade US pressure.
The new rules give the Treasury more power to target businesses linked to these sectors and Iran, with a focus on crypto as a key area of concern.
Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent warned that companies helping Iran move illegal money could be cut off from the US dollar system. The Treasury has already sanctioned nearly 60 people, companies, and vessels connected to Iran across countries such as the UAE, China, Hong Kong, Singapore, and Europe.
