US Weighs Global Stablecoin Push to Boost Dollar Dominance
The US government is exploring a plan to promote dollar-backed stablecoins globally through public-private partnerships. The initiative aims to boost demand for Treasuries and the dollar, according to Bloomberg.
A 2026 survey by Visa found that the number of Americans willing to use stablecoins rose from 36% to 56%, driven in part by increased anti-fraud mechanisms and insurance policies.
The stablecoin market capitalization is currently at $306.5 billion, with Tether's USDT dominating at 59.83%. However, the proposal faces regulatory pushback and bank deposit flight risks.
Rival nations such as China and Europe are already pushing for similar moves with their own digital currencies, including the e-CNY and the digital euro.
