$USDe Diversifies Collateral Strategy With Tokenized Equities Partnership
Ethena has expanded the collateral strategy of its stablecoin $USDe by partnering with Binance to incorporate tokenized equities into the backing. This move targets new yield opportunities beyond crypto markets and pairs Binance's bStocks with equity perpetuals, creating a delta-neutral structure designed to capture funding income.
The expansion gives $USDe exposure to a broader pool of potential collateral, estimated to exceed $150 trillion in global real-world assets, compared to roughly $2.5 trillion across crypto. Ethena reported that Binance's equity perpetuals offered stronger funding returns than major crypto markets recently, with average equity funding near 17.5% between May 20 and August 11.
However, since then, funding conditions have weakened, according to a report by Kairos Research, which found approved Binance equity contracts averaging about 7% annually on August 26. To mitigate risks during periods of market stress, Ethena's partnership with Binance includes lower auto-deleveraging priority for eligible delta-neutral accounts.
The $USDe supply currently stands near $4.9 billion, and the equity expansion is expected to diversify its yield sources as crypto funding rates remain subdued.
