USDe Price Fluctuates on Binance Ahead of Scheduled Maintenance
Ethena's synthetic dollar, USDe, experienced an unusual price fluctuation on Binance's spot pair. On September 22, 2026, at around 1 p.m. Beijing time, USDe briefly dropped to $0.9202 before rebounding back to near $1 within minutes. This 8% gap occurred roughly an hour before Binance's scheduled wallet maintenance began.
The incident has sparked concerns about the potential risks associated with holding USDe on Binance during maintenance windows. Although Ethena, BlackRock, FalconX, and Binance have not officially commented on the matter, Binance's past approach to compensation after similar events may be a guiding factor for investors.
USDe is built on delta-hedged positions across derivative venues, which means its price is held in line by arbitrage and hedging rather than cash reserves. This unique design makes it more susceptible to venue-level dislocations, as seen during the Black Friday crash in October 2025, when USDe fell to around $0.65 on Binance spot.
