USDT Returns Home: Tether's Stablecoin Launches on Bitcoin This Month
Tether's USDT is returning to its roots on Bitcoin after a decade. The stablecoin will launch this month thanks to Utexo, a company that secured a commercial license to deploy it on the network.
The integration uses RGB protocol to maintain transaction privacy by keeping data off Bitcoin's blockchain. This allows users to conduct confidential USDT transactions and execute peer-to-peer BTC-USDT exchanges without exposing their information publicly.
Utexo also plans to integrate Lightning Network functionality for faster payments, allowing USDT to function as a fee payment mechanism within Lightning channels.
Tether maintains substantial bitcoin reserves, holding approximately 100,000 BTC valued at roughly $8.4 billion. Utexo's co-founder noted that Bitcoin has consistently remained a strategic priority for Tether's treasury.
