$USDT Returns to Bitcoin as Tether Seeks Cheaper Transactions
Tether's USDT is making its way back to Bitcoin, according to Tether CEO Paolo Ardoino. The move was first announced in January 2025, with companies like Utexo working on building infrastructure for the stablecoin's return to the network.
The majority of $USDT activity has shifted from Bitcoin to other networks like Ethereum and Tron due to lower transfer fees. However, with the help of technologies such as RGB and Taproot Assets, transactions can now be processed faster and cheaper using Bitcoin.
Ardoino confirmed that the move is ongoing support for Tether's return to Bitcoin, not a new project. Utexo co-founder Viktor Ihnatiuk claimed that over 450 businesses are in their pipeline, including exchanges, wallets, and payment companies.
