USDT Returns to Its Roots on Bitcoin
Tether's USDT stablecoin is making a return to its roots, says Paolo Ardoino, CEO of Tether. In a recent post on X, Ardoino stated that 'USDT on Bitcoin. It's coming home.' This marks a significant shift in strategy for the company as it invests heavily in infrastructure designed to make Bitcoin a viable stablecoin settlement and payments network.
The move is part of a broader push by Tether into Bitcoin rather than an isolated stablecoin integration. Tether has invested in Bitcoin mining infrastructure, committed portions of its operating profits to purchasing BTC, and funded companies developing Bitcoin-based payment and settlement technology.
The integration aims to combine Bitcoin settlement with the Lightning Network's faster, lower-cost payment infrastructure using the Taproot Assets protocol. This will target use cases including remittances, micropayments, and cross-border transfers.
