Verus Ethereum Bridge Hit Again: $7.54M Stolen in Security Breach

The Verus Ethereum Bridge has been hit by another security breach, this time resulting in the theft of approximately $7.54 million in crypto assets on July 23.

The attack, which was confirmed by blockchain security firm Blockaid and independent security researcher exvulsec, exploited a vulnerability in the bridge's submitImports function that allowed attackers to trigger Ethereum-side payouts without corresponding assets being locked on the Verus blockchain.

This marks the second major exploit of the Verus Ethereum Bridge in just over two months, with a previous attack in May resulting in the theft of $11.58 million. The recurrence of this vulnerability has raised concerns that it may not have been fully addressed before operations resumed on the bridge.
