Vietnam Sets 2026 Launch for First Licensed Crypto Service Providers
Vietnam is moving forward with its five-year digital asset market pilot, with the first licensed crypto service providers expected to begin operations in 2026. As part of this effort, regulators are developing a supervision system that focuses on risk management, investor asset protection, and anti-money laundering controls.
According to Deputy Minister of Finance Nguyen Duc Chi, five companies have passed an initial assessment under the pilot framework. However, no final exchange license had been issued as of August 30th. The licensing process requires applicants to meet strict requirements, including having at least 10 trillion dong (approximately $383 million) in paid-in charter capital and ensuring that at least 65% of the capital comes from institutional shareholders.
The Vietnamese government is seeking regulatory experience from Austria and the European Union as it prepares its domestic crypto market framework. In a recent meeting with Austrian Financial Market Authority Executive Director Mariana Kühnel, Chi discussed financial market oversight and future cooperation between the two countries.
