Vietnamese National Charged in International Cryptocurrency 'Pig Butchering' Scheme
A Vietnamese national has been charged in connection with a massive cryptocurrency 'pig butchering' scheme that allegedly laundered tens of millions of dollars stolen from American victims.
The U.S. Attorney's Office for the Western District of Missouri announced that Trung Nguyen Van, 37, faces two counts of money laundering following an initial court appearance in Los Angeles.
According to federal authorities, Van was part of an international 'pig butchering' operation targeting millions of Americans with romance scams on dating sites and social apps.
The scheme involves scammers building trust with victims before steering them toward fraudulent crypto platforms. In this case, one victim lost around $16 million after being directed to invest in a bogus platform called 'Triangle.'
