Villemain's Spritehood Sale Brings in $1.28M in Under an Hour
Cole Villemain, the co-founder of Pudgy Penguins who was ousted in January 2022, sold out a 44,444-piece NFT collection called Spritehood on Robinhood Chain for approximately $1.28 million. The sale lasted under an hour and was conducted through a public mint.
Villemain posted about the project on July 11, stating that he believed it could become the #1 NFT on Robinhood Chain, which he claimed was '90% built' at the time. He also offered to design and mint a token for a user who liked, reposted, and followed the Spritehood account.
However, some users expressed skepticism about the project's legitimacy, with X user HanIsRich calling it a 'purely cashgrab.' They argued that the repeated mints would lead to liquidity being extracted from the chain by a few individuals, effectively making it a dead chain. Villemain has not published verified code for the contract that collected money from buyers.
