Visa and CoinShares Highlight Rising Crypto Demand Among Consumers and Investors
Recent surveys from Visa and CoinShares highlight a growing interest in cryptocurrencies among consumers and affluent investors. Visa's study of 14,250 consumers across 14 Asia-Pacific markets found that 46% are likely to use stablecoins within five years, up from 16% in the previous year. The survey also revealed that 49% believe stablecoins could become a common way to move money internationally, indicating strong potential for growth if payment experiences become more trusted and accessible.
However, awareness does not always translate to understanding. Visa found that while 66% of respondents had heard of stablecoins, only 6% demonstrated an accurate understanding of how they work. Concerns about fraud and scams, along with limited knowledge, remain significant barriers to adoption. Consumers appear to be looking for familiar, regulated channels such as banks and payment providers to build trust.
CoinShares' survey of 2,230 affluent investors across the U.S. and six European countries presents a different perspective. A majority of respondents in each market held digital assets, with allocations averaging around 10% of their portfolios. Strategic motives like long-term appreciation and diversification were cited as key reasons for investment, rather than short-term speculation. Notably, 85% or more of current investors in five of seven markets plan to increase their exposure by 2026, with strong support for greater regulation and professional guidance.
The surveys suggest that while consumers are drawn to the practical use of stablecoins for payments, affluent investors are increasingly viewing cryptocurrencies as a strategic asset. This divide could shape the future of institutional digital-asset services, with a focus on regulated access, diversification, and expert advice.
