Visa-Backed Stablecoin Open Standard to Reward Partners with Equity
The Open Standard, backed by Visa and Mastercard, plans to distribute its company equity to partners that contribute to the growth of its stablecoin, OUSD. The model aims to encourage the use of OUSD for payments and transactions, not just holding it.
Five founding partners, including Coinbase, Mastercard, Shopify, Stripe, and Visa, pledged over $1 billion in capital to build OUSD liquidity. These companies received equal initial stakes as the company's first five founding investors.
The number of founding investors is expected to rise to 10-12 companies over time. Open Standard will distribute most of its company equity over the next 4-5 years to partners that contribute to OUSD's growth, measured by both supply and usage.
