Visa Defies Stablecoin Fears as Stock Reaches New Heights
Visa (NYSE: V) is trading near its all-time closing high of $384.14, set on August 25, and has gained around 14% since June 16 when a buy signal was triggered. The company's market capitalization is approximately $693 billion. A recent partnership with South Korea's Shinhan Financial Group to explore stablecoin issuance, remittance, and redemption using Visa's enterprise stablecoin platform did not seem to impact the stock price.
The deal allows for the integration of stablecoin payments with card transactions and the development of B2B and B2C payment models tailored to the Korean market. This is not the first time Visa has explored stablecoins, having piloted USDC settlement in 2021 and expanding the program through banking partners.
Cathie Wood at ARK Invest argued that Wall Street analysts covering Visa and Mastercard 'fundamentally do not understand the threat Circle Internet Group poses.' The logic is that stablecoin rails can process trillions of transactions at a lower cost than card networks, but this has yet to materialize.
