Visa Leaps into Stablecoin Era with Plug-and-Play Platform
Payment giant Visa has made significant strides in embracing stablecoins, indicating a growing acceptance of cryptocurrencies within traditional financial systems.
In July, Visa introduced its 'Visa Stablecoin Platform', a plug-and-play toolkit for banks and fintechs to manage private keys, set up multi-sig wallets, and mint/burn tokens without the need for extensive technical expertise.
The platform will initially support Open USD and USDC (USDC +0.00%) coins, with VisaNet settlement data being paired with smart contracts to enable on-chain lending rails. This innovative approach allows blockchain lenders to assess live settlement performance and extend short-term credit directly on the blockchain.
As of 2026, over 160 stablecoin-linked card programs are live globally, with stablecoin-linked card payment volume up nearly 200% year-over-year. Visa's stablecoin settlement volume has surpassed $20 billion annualized, exceeding traditional banking systems' capabilities.
