Visa Links Payment Settlement Network with Blockchain-Based Lending
Visa is taking a significant step towards integrating its payment settlement network with blockchain-based lending infrastructure. The company has unveiled a new approach to funding businesses by linking its VisaNet settlement records with on-chain transaction information.
The move aims to enable lenders to use both off-chain settlement data and on-chain activity to assess borrowers and extend credit against payment obligations. This effectively brings on-chain lending closer to everyday payment flows, making it easier for businesses to access liquidity.
Visa highlighted Credit Coop as an early example of this concept in action. The protocol has financed over $2.5 billion in cumulative settlement volume since 2023 across participating facilities, with more than 3,000 borrowing events and 9,000 repayments.
The company's stablecoin-linked card network has grown to over 160 programs, with payment volume up nearly 200% year-over-year. Stablecoin settlement volume has surpassed a $20 billion annualized run rate, with adjusted transaction volume reaching a record $1.79 trillion in June.
