Vitalik Buterin: Advanced AI Won't Doom Crypto Security
Ethereum co-founder Vitalik Buterin is countering concerns that AI will doom crypto security. He says advanced models can actually help make blockchain software more secure, rather than giving hackers an insurmountable advantage.
In a recent post on X, Buterin argued that AI won't render cybersecurity obsolete. 'Cybersecurity is naturally defense-favoring once people get their shit together,' he wrote.
Buterin believes that AI can make formal verification, the use of mathematical proofs to establish software security, practical even for complex systems. He pointed out that if AI can solve famously difficult mathematical problems, it should also be able to prove that a program is secure as a mathematical theorem.
In the crypto space, developers are increasingly using AI agents to scan code, test exploits, and verify bugs before attackers can act. This has led to the discovery of vulnerabilities in both Ethereum infrastructure and Bitcoin software.
