Vitalik Buterin: AI Can Help Secure Crypto, Not Doom It
Ethereum co-founder Vitalik Buterin has addressed concerns that AI-powered hacking will make it impossible to secure cryptocurrencies. In a recent post on X, he argued that AI can actually enhance security by making formal verification more practical.
Buterin stated that AI can be used to prove software is secure through mathematical proofs, even for complex systems. He emphasized that this does not mean security is easy, but rather that it requires clearly defining what 'secure' means in the first place.
The comments build on Ethereum's efforts to incorporate AI-assisted security measures, including STARKs and quantum resistance. Buterin believes that with the right approach, blockchain developers can stay ahead of attackers.
Recent incidents have highlighted the growing use of AI in crypto security. In May, a researcher used an AI agent to uncover a vulnerability in Zcash's Orchard privacy pool. In July, Ethereum Foundation researchers found vulnerabilities in critical network infrastructure using AI agents.
