Vitalik Buterin Proposes Decentralized Asset Baskets, Ditches Dollar-Pegged Stablecoins
Ethereum co-founder Vitalik Buterin argues that dollar-pegged stablecoins are not ideal forms of stability. In his view, people want price stability to cover future spending, not exposure to any one fiat currency.
Buterin proposes a new approach: personalized spending-based asset baskets. Each individual or business would run a local large language model trained on their own spending, building a basket of prediction market shares worth a set number of days' expected expenses.
This system eliminates the need for fiat currency and allows people to hold stocks, Ethereum (ETH), or other assets to grow wealth, with the personalized shares held only when stability is needed. Buterin sees this as a more decentralized alternative to traditional stablecoins.
