Vitalik Buterin Rejects AI-Driven Bitcoin Crash Prediction
Vitalik Buterin has dismissed warnings that artificial intelligence could significantly lower Bitcoin's value by undermining its security guarantees. Liron Shapira, a crypto commentator, expressed '50% confidence' that BTC would crash 50% or more within two years due to AI-related threats.
Buterin disagreed with this assessment, saying the probability of actual breaks on hashes or proof-of-work is 'tiny.' He believes the main risk lies in managing the transition itself, not a cryptographic failure. According to Buterin, Bitcoin can handle issues that do not require social consensus well, such as network-layer hacks.
The debate has sparked discussion about the potential for AI to shorten the period between finding vulnerabilities and exploiting them. Vista Labs suggested that upgrade latency could become the real security constraint. However, analyst Crypto Patel framed Bitcoin's strength in its ability to adapt once new threats appear.
