Vitalik Buterin Sees AI as Game-Changer for Cybersecurity, Not Doom

Ethereum co-founder Vitalik Buterin has expressed optimism about the potential of AI to improve cybersecurity, rejecting the notion that AI hacking will inevitably lead to a decline in digital security. In a recent social media post on X, Buterin argued that AI can actually give defenders the tools needed to build software that is significantly harder to exploit.

Buterin tied his confidence in AI-assisted formal verification, which mathematically demonstrates that software satisfies specific properties, to his own exposure to cryptocurrency. He revealed that approximately 90% of his net worth remains in crypto, and anyone holding substantial amounts of cryptocurrency is effectively betting on the possibility of building secure digital systems despite sophisticated attackers.

The Ethereum co-founder used Signal as an example to illustrate the complexity of defining what 'secure' means in the context of software. He noted that even encrypted conversations can be vulnerable to various types of attacks, and that the mathematical definition of security could itself become extremely complicated.
