Vitalik Buterin Unveils 2030 Plan for Ethereum's Cryptographic World Computer
Ethereum co-founder Vitalik Buterin has outlined his vision for Ethereum by 2030, which he calls a 'cryptographic world computer'. This system would combine a blockchain with cryptographic proofs and outside computers, allowing results to be verified without every computer repeating the same calculations.
The current system requires each computer to check transactions individually, which limits scalability. Buterin argues that newer cryptographic tools can break this constraint by having a computer process transactions and produce a short mathematical proof that it followed the rules.
This proof would be much faster to verify than repeating the original work, allowing for more efficient processing of transactions. The system would also enable separate spot checks to confirm transaction records stayed available to anyone who wanted to inspect them.
The 2030 plan would also address privacy concerns by hiding requests alongside payment details and the rules an account uses to approve spending. This would allow businesses to keep their payments confidential without exposing their accounts each time an employee checked a balance.
