Vitalik's Four-Year Plan: Scaling, Quantum Resistance, and Decentralized Future
Ethereum co-founder Vitalik Buterin outlined a four-year roadmap for the network at Hong Kong's Web3 Festival, positioning Ethereum as a long-term foundation for global digital infrastructure. The goal is for Ethereum to be 'the chain that people can rely on,' he said.
The roadmap focuses on three core pillars: scaling, quantum resistance, and maintaining decentralization. Buterin emphasized the need for early preparation for quantum-resistant cryptography, warning that quantum computing could pose risks within a decade.
Near-term upgrades include the rollout of zk-EVM technology, which enables faster and cheaper transaction verification, as well as higher gas limits, faster finality, smarter wallets, and improved privacy features. The network aims to reduce confirmation times to 10-20 seconds, a significant improvement over current settlement windows.
Bitmine Immersion Technologies purchased 101,627 ETH over the past week, marking one of the largest Ethereum purchases this year. Analysts noted the importance of preparing for quantum-resistant cryptography, with Milk Road commenting that 'Early plans/solutions for quantum are exactly what we want to see.'
