Wall Street Institutions Boost Crypto Holdings Despite Market Decline
The Q2 Wall Street crypto rebalancing has revealed an interesting trend. Despite Bitcoin falling by approximately 14.2% during this period, institutional reported crypto holdings actually increased.
According to Bitcoin Strategy's analysis of 13F data, institutional Bitcoin holdings rose from around 498,000 BTC to about 536,000 BTC, a quarter-over-quarter increase of 7.5%. In contrast, total ETF holdings declined from roughly 1.297 million BTC to about 1.211 million BTC.
Ethereum exposure took the lead across the board, with notable growth among top players such as Morgan Stanley and JPMorgan. For example, Morgan Stanley's BTC exposure grew 3.7% quarter-over-quarter in Q2, while ETH exposure increased by a significant 18.6%. JPMorgan saw similar growth, with its BTC exposure increasing 12.2%, and ETH exposure rising 67.3%.
On the other hand, Ethereum spot ETFs actually saw net outflows overall in Q2, totaling around $714 million. This discrepancy highlights the complexities of institutional investors' strategies and their varying levels of confidence in different assets.
