US Senator Elizabeth Warren has requested that the US Commerce Department explain its policy towards the United Arab Emirates (UAE) following a series of investments linking the country to President Donald Trump's family-backed cryptocurrency venture, World Liberty Financial.

In a letter sent on Wednesday, Warren asked Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick to clarify why the US government granted the UAE greater access to advanced AI chips after two investments that tied the country to Trump's crypto business.

The first investment was made in January by an Abu Dhabi entity backed by Sheikh Tahnoon bin Zayed Al Nahyan, which injected $500 million into World Liberty Financial. The second investment was settled by a company linked to the UAE, using World Liberty's USD1 stablecoin, for $2 billion in Binance.

Warren expressed concerns that the administration's actions could be influenced by Trump's cryptocurrency business interests and potentially compromise national security.
