Warren Demands Investigation into Trump-Linked Crypto Firm Over Illicit Finance Concerns
Senator Elizabeth Warren is calling for an investigation into World Liberty Financial (WLF), a cryptocurrency firm linked to former President Donald Trump. In a letter to the Department of Justice and the Treasury, Warren expressed concerns about 'illicit finance' risks associated with WLF.
The $WLFI token, launched by Trump in September 2024, has a market cap of around $1.8 billion. Filing revealed earlier this year that token sales and equity stakes netted Trump roughly $500 billion, part of a massive windfall from crypto deals in 2025.
Warren pointed to a $100 million WLF purchase made by Guren 'Bobby' Zhou, a businessman under investigation for money laundering. The purchase was made through his company, Aqua 1, which Warren flagged as suspicious due to unclear source of funds and lack of formal registration in the UAE.
Warren has previously raised concerns about WLF tokens being sold to potentially problematic international buyers, including those with ties to North Korean state-sponsored hackers and sanctioned Russian money-laundering entities.
