Warren Demands Investigation Into Trump-Linked Crypto Firm Over Illicit Finance Concerns
US Senator Elizabeth Warren has written to government agencies demanding an investigation into World Liberty Financial (WLF), a crypto firm linked to former President Donald Trump, over concerns about illicit finance. The senator's letter was delivered amid a failed Senate vote on the Clarity Act, a key piece of crypto legislation that aims to provide a regulatory framework for digital assets.
The WLF token has a market cap of around $1.8 billion and was launched by Trump in September 2024. Warren is concerned about the firm's connections to individuals or entities involved in illicit finance. In her letter, she specifically mentioned a $100 million WLF purchase made by businessman Guren 'Bobby' Zhou, who has been investigated for money laundering.
Warren flagged Aqua 1, Zhou's company, as suspicious, noting that its source of funds is unclear and it lacks formal registration in the UAE. This is not the first time Warren has raised concerns about WLF tokens being sold to potentially problematic international buyers. In November 2025, she requested an investigation into WLF after reports surfaced that tokens were sold to buyers linked to North Korean state-sponsored hackers and sanctioned Russian money-laundering entities.
