Warren Opposes Current Crypto Regulation Bill: National Security Concerns Unaddressed
Sen. Elizabeth Warren has expressed her concerns about the current state of cryptocurrency regulation in the US. According to reports, she believes that legislation is necessary but opposes the CLARITY Act, which is currently before the Senate.
Warren's main issues with the bill are its lack of measures to restrict public officials' crypto investments and address national security concerns. She also wants more stringent consumer protection and restrictions on illicit finance and terrorist funding.
The controversy surrounding President Donald Trump's crypto interests has emerged as a key sticking point. Warren has argued that enforcing ethics rules against a president would be difficult, and she wants to see changes to the current bill.
Warren has proposed expanding ethics rules to cover Trump's children and requiring public officials with large stakes in crypto companies to sell their assets. However, Sen. Cynthia Lummis, the Republican leading the CLARITY Act, has rejected these proposals.
If Warren becomes chair of the Senate Banking Committee, she plans to lead crypto legislation herself, working with Democrats, Republicans, and industry stakeholders to build a regulatory framework that protects national security and the economy while addressing corruption.
