Warren Rallies Democrats Against Crypto-Friendly Bill
Senator Elizabeth Warren is rallying her Democratic colleagues against a bill that would embed 'digital assets' in the US financial system. The bill, known as the Clarity Act, has been opposed by progressive Democrats who argue it would be a giveaway to an industry that has facilitated President Donald Trump's corruption.
Warren claims that the bill would benefit Trump's crypto empire and allow his family to continue profiting from it. She points out that the new version of the bill includes an ethics provision that requires Trump to divest or place digital assets in a blind trust after one year, but argues this provision is full of loopholes.
Warren has been critical of the bill since its earlier version was proposed over the summer. At the time, Senate Democrats were hesitant to vote for it due to concerns that it would essentially put Trump in charge of regulating an industry that's making him richer than ever.
A revised version of the 600-page bill was released by Republicans on Monday, which includes beefed-up ethics provisions. However, Warren and her staff believe this new provision is not enough to address the issue.
