Warren Seeks Answers on UAE Tech Access After Trump-Linked Crypto Deal

Share

Senator Elizabeth Warren is demanding answers from Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick on why the US eased export controls on advanced AI technology for UAE companies, just days after a UAE-linked entity invested $500 million in World Liberty Financial, a crypto venture tied to the Trump family.

The deal saw entities linked to Sheikh Tahnoon bin Zayed Al Nahyan acquire a 49% stake in World Liberty Financial in January 2026 for $500 million, with $187 million wired upfront to Trump family entities. The senator's math on Trump's personal windfall from the arrangement lands at $263 million in financial gains.

Warren has also demanded testimony from Jeffrey Kessler, the Bureau of Industry and Security's Under Secretary, to address what she sees as a glaring national security vulnerability. She's urged Congress not to pass crypto legislation that would allow presidential families to profit from digital asset ventures.
