Warren Slams GOP's Crypto Ethics Deal as 'Window Dressing'
Senator Elizabeth Warren is taking issue with the CLARITY Act, a Republican-backed bill aimed at creating a comprehensive regulatory framework for the crypto industry. The bill includes new ethics provisions, but Warren argues that they are 'window dressing' designed to provide political cover while leaving the door open for officials, including President Trump, to profit from favorable policies.
The updated text of the bill, released on September 14, 2026, includes proposals to ban officials from profiting off issuing digital assets and various disclosure requirements. However, Warren has characterized these measures as 'do nothing' when it comes to preventing Trump's potential self-dealing in crypto.
Warren sent a letter to Senate leaders in July urging them to bar officials from profiting off cryptocurrency entirely, citing Trump's 2025 financial disclosures which reported crypto income between $1 billion and $2 billion with increases reaching up to 250%.
