Wealthy Indians Still Flocking to Cryptocurrencies Amid GDP Growth
India's economy is growing rapidly, with real GDP rising 7.8% year on year in the April to June quarter of FY27, up from 6.9% a year earlier.
However, despite this growth, India's average per capita income remains relatively low at $2,810, placing it around 150th globally, according to the IMF's World Economic Outlook.
This disparity highlights a crucial distinction between GDP and household wealth. While India's economy is expanding, the country's people are not necessarily becoming wealthy.
The top 10% of Indians own about 65% of the country's wealth, while the bottom 50% hold just 6.4%, according to the World Inequality Report 2026.
