Web3 Gaming Investments Rebound with 94% Surge to $60 Million
Web3 gaming investments have experienced a significant surge of 94% in July, reaching a total of $60 million. This marks a rebound after three months of decline, during which time investors began to prioritize games that focus on fun and quality gameplay over those that rely heavily on tokenomics. The funding is predominantly going towards projects with established teams and strong intellectual property.
The blockchain gaming sector as a whole has seen growth, with 4.9 million daily unique active wallets in July, a 2% increase from June. This makes it the only sector showing growth, indicating a shift towards a more mature phase in the industry. Analyst Sara Gherghelas notes that this 'Darwinian stage' may be healthy for long-term stability, as smaller studios without traction struggle or pivot.
The industry is moving towards cross-platform launches and brand-driven titles, aiming to attract mainstream audiences. This shift suggests that the hype cycles are ending, replaced by a more grounded approach to sustainable growth. Games with optional blockchain elements and backend infrastructure are becoming more prominent, indicating a move away from pure tokenomics plays.
