Western Union has made significant strides in digital asset infrastructure with its latest moves. In May 2026, it launched the USDPT dollar-backed stablecoin on the Solana blockchain through a partnership with Anchorage Digital Bank.

The Stablecard, which operates through a partnership with Rain, was launched on August 4, 2026, across 37 initial markets globally, with expansion planned to 60-plus countries by the end of this year.

USDPT is built on the Solana blockchain and is fully backed by US dollar reserves held in custody. CEO Devin McGranahan stated that USDPT is an alternative to the interbank SWIFT settlement network, not a consumer product.
