Whale Sells $64 Million in Bitcoin for Ether Hours Before Senate Blocks CLARITY Act
A significant whale sold 866 Bitcoin (BTC) for 26,924 Ether (ETH) on September 15, just hours before the U.S. Senate blocked the CLARITY Act, causing the price of BTC to plummet below $75,000.
The trade was made by wallet address 0x4553, which swapped 512 Wrapped Bitcoin (WBTC) and 354 cross-border Bitcoin (cbBTC) for the equivalent value in ETH. The total value of the ETH received was approximately $64.57 million.
Bitcoin's price dropped sharply after the Senate vote, breaking below the $75,000 mark for the first time since August 20. Roughly $289 million in leveraged positions were wiped out in the hour surrounding the vote, with about 91% of them being longs.
The ETH/BTC ratio sits at around 0.0317, just below the 0.03213 barrier that analysts consider a key test. Ether has gained more than 32% against Bitcoin since its June low near 0.02525, breaking a descending channel that had held since August 2025.
