Whales Breathe Easier as Bitcoin Rebounds, But Market Still Vulnerable
Bitcoin's recent rebound has brought small whales back to profitability, but the broader market remains weak. According to CryptoQuant analysis, wallets holding between 100 and 1,000 BTC have returned to unrealized profit following the price recovery.
This signal does not indicate that these whales purchased more Bitcoin; rather, their existing holdings have returned to profitability as the price recovered from depressed levels. This can happen without substantial new capital entering the market.
However, the broader short-term holder data remains weaker, with the short-term holder market cap falling to $236.2 billion on July 25, marking only the second move below its 2024 low.
The decline in short-term holder market cap can be attributed to several factors, including a lower Bitcoin price reducing the value of coins already held and supply leaving the cohort as previously acquired BTC ages into long-term ownership.
