Whales Flood Crypto Market with $30B in Stablecoins, Position for October Rally
September saw a significant influx of stablecoins into the crypto market, with whales shifting $30B in liquidity over the past 30 days. This marks a 40% increase in deposits above $1M sent to Binance, according to on-chain data from Cryptoquant.
The trend of stablecoin inflows to Binance has been building since August 14, with inflows expanding from around $26B to over $30B in September. This surge in stablecoin deposits coincided with the recovery of Bitcoin above $85,000, suggesting that whales are positioning themselves for a potential rally in October.
However, allocation remains cautious, as Bitcoin remains shaky in the face of global uncertainty and growing bond yields. The inflow of stablecoins may also be indicative of derivative trading, leading to expanded open interest, which is not necessarily immediately bullish.
Despite the focus on stablecoins, retail behavior shows slower stablecoin usage, with active addresses down by 8.1% to around 5.1M daily, and daily turnover down 32% in the past 30 days, according to Artemis.
