Winklevoss Sees AI Boom as Second Chance to Buy Bitcoin at Discount
Cameron Winklevoss, co-founder of Gemini (Nasdaq: GEMI), believes that the current artificial intelligence boom has provided crypto investors with another chance to buy Bitcoin at a significantly lower price than its record-breaking run. He made this prediction on X on August 18, stating that 'The AI trade has given the world a time machine to go back in time and invest in Bitcoin at $65k.'
This comment comes as some retail traders and hedge funds rotate out of crypto and into AI-linked stocks. According to The Wall Street Journal, investors have sold Bitcoin and other tokens to chase gains in chipmakers and other AI companies, leading to a decline in Bitcoin's price from above $126,000 in October 2025 to half of it.
Gemini, the crypto exchange co-founded by Winklevoss and his twin Tyler, has been affected by the weaker crypto market. Its Q2 2026 results showed a 38% year-over-year decline in exchange revenue to $12.5 million, with total trading volume dropping to $3.8 billion from $11.3 billion.
However, Winklevoss remains bullish on Bitcoin's prospects, echoing BlackRock's assessment that the selloff was driven largely by crypto-native deleveraging and shifting flows rather than a fundamental change in Bitcoin's long-term investment case.
