Winklevoss Twins File for Spot Zcash ETF After 13-Year Bitcoin ETF Push
The Winklevoss twins, Cameron and Tyler, have filed a new spot Zcash ETF with the U.S. SEC, marking their latest move in the crypto ETF space over 13 years after their first spot Bitcoin ETF proposal.
The filing, submitted on October 6, 2026, aims to launch the WINK ETF on the Nasdaq. The proposed fund would hold actual ZEC tokens, using a cash creation and redemption model. This follows Grayscale's successful Zcash ETF, which has already amassed over $900 million in assets under management.
The twins' interest in Zcash extends beyond the ETF. Their company, Cypherpunk Technologies, holds a significant position of over 290,062 ZEC, valued at approximately $152 million. They also plan to accumulate at least 5% of Zcash's total supply and have brought in Zooko Wilcox, the founder of Zcash, as a strategic adviser.
The filing has coincided with a surge in ZEC prices, which have rallied above 5% and are now trading at $1,357. The token's performance has been strong, recovering from summer declines as traders seek privacy-focused alternatives to Bitcoin.
