Wintermute Pours $1 Billion into AI and Trading Tech Expansion
Wintermute, a leading market maker in crypto assets, is making a major bet on its future. The company has committed $1 billion over five years to develop its artificial intelligence and high-frequency trading capabilities, with the goal of increasing revenue from non-crypto markets to over 50% by 2027.
According to founder and CEO Evgeny Gaevoy, Wintermute will fund this investment through retained earnings. The company was profitable in 2025 and remains on track to post a profit this year, despite a decline in crypto market activity that has seen its average daily trading volume fall to $10 billion from $15 billion last year.
The expansion into non-crypto markets comes as Wintermute seeks to reduce its dependence on the volatile digital asset space. The company is already registered as a broker-dealer in the US, allowing it to trade equities and equity options for its own account, and has established a presence in exchange-traded funds, real-world-asset perpetual futures, and prediction markets.
