Wintermute Pours $1 Billion into AI Trading Amid TradFi Push
Crypto market maker Wintermute is expanding into traditional finance (TradFi) with plans to invest up to $1 billion in AI infrastructure and high-frequency trading over the next five years. According to CEO Evgeny Gaevoy, Wintermute aims to increase its non-crypto market activity to account for more than 50% of its business by the end of 2027, up from the current 10%. This significant shift is part of a larger effort to diversify and grow the company's presence in TradFi.
The investment will also support the expansion of Wintermute's global headcount, with plans to double staff at its New York office next year. The move reflects growing interest in AI and high-frequency trading among financial institutions, which could lead to increased adoption and demand for these services.
