Wintermute Secures US Broker License, Eyes Expansion into Traditional Markets
Crypto market maker Wintermute has secured a broker license in the US, giving it a regulated route into Wall Street. The company's New York-based unit, Wintermute USA LLC, has registered with the SEC and joined FINRA, allowing it to trade U.S. stocks and equity options.
The firm plans to initially focus on crypto-linked markets, but may expand into tokenized stocks pending regulatory approval. With $10 billion in daily trades across more than 60 venues, Wintermute aims to compete with established market makers within three to five years.
