Crypto ATM scams have plagued Wisconsin, but a new law is attempting to mitigate the problem. Robert Semanko, a victim of such a scam, told police he thought it was impossible for him to be scammed.

According to Jacob Szczap of Wisconsin Watch, crypto ATMs are unregulated machines that allow users to exchange cash for cryptocurrencies like Bitcoin and other digital assets. These devices have proliferated in Wisconsin, with some 300 installed across the state.

The new law aims to crack down on these scams by requiring operators to register their machines and maintain records of transactions. While some experts hail this as a step forward, others argue that it does not go far enough in addressing the root causes of these scams.
