Wisconsin Crypto ATMs Regulated Amid Growing Scam Concerns

Crypto ATM scams have plagued Wisconsin residents in recent years, with scammers extracting hundreds of thousands of dollars from victims. The state has passed a law regulating crypto ATMs, which restricts daily transactions to $1,000 and requires receipts after each transaction.

The legislation was co-authored by Sen. Jesse James, who responded to one scam case as a police officer. He noted that while the new law will help educate consumers about the risks of crypto ATM scams, more needs to be done to protect residents.

Crypto ATMs have become increasingly popular in Wisconsin and across the US, with over 700 machines operating in the state. However, they also offer potential for scams, as transactions are often untraceable and fees can be high, between 20-30% of the transaction amount.
