WLFI Faces Scrutiny Over $100M Investment Linked to UK Money Laundering Probe
World Liberty Financial (WLFI) is facing fresh scrutiny over its $100 million investment linked to a UK money laundering investigation. The businessman behind this purchase, Guren 'Bobby' Zhou, was arrested in Britain in 2021 on suspicion of money laundering and has not been charged.
Zhou's past is shrouded in mystery. He ran a UK flooring business that went into restructuring while owing around $5 million to his father's company. Later, he became involved with Caduceus, a crypto project whose token lost most of its value after claiming backing from China Merchants Securities UK and Bin Zayed Group.
After moving to Abu Dhabi, Zhou became connected to crypto investment firm Web3Port. A wallet controlled by Web3Port bought $20 million worth of WLFI in January 2025, while another wallet believed to be controlled by Aqua 1 purchased an additional $80 million in June.
